Privacy Policy

1. Overview & Commitment to Privacy

FoodScan AI ("we", "our", or "us") provides a visual and barcode-based food packaged recognition service. We believe food intelligence and health transparency should not come at the cost of personal surveillance.

        Zero Personal Data Sale: We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal information or dietary queries to data brokers, advertisers, or third-party marketing networks.
      

2. Information We Collect & How It Is Used

In accordance with Google Play Developer Policy and global privacy standards (GDPR/CCPA):

Camera & Photos (Device Permission): Used strictly in real-time to scan packaged food barcodes and capture label/ingredient panels. We only process images you explicitly capture or upload.
Extracted Optical Text (OCR): Text recognized on food packages is parsed for food ingredients, E-number additives, and nutritional facts.
Dietary Preferences (Optional): Your dietary toggles (e.g. Vegan, Vegetarian, Halal, Gluten-Free, Palm-Oil Free) are stored locally on your device (in localStorage / Hive) to compute personal safety matches.
Crash & Performance Telemetry: Aggregated, non-personally identifiable diagnostic logs to identify app errors and improve server latency.

3. How Food Images Are Processed

When you scan a food package:

On-Device First: Barcode scanning and OCR text recognition occur directly on your device via hardware-accelerated machine learning (Google ML Kit on Android) whenever possible.
Edge AI Analysis: When an image is submitted for multimodal analysis, it is securely transmitted over TLS 1.3 encrypted HTTPS to our Cloudflare Edge API and Google Gemini API exclusively for ingredient extraction. Images are not retained as permanent biometric records.

4. Data Storage & Retention

Your scan history and favorite items are saved locally on your device. We do not maintain server-side user tracking profiles linked to your identity.

If you clear your app data or uninstall the application, all locally saved scans and preferences are permanently deleted from your device.

5. Permissions Requested on Android Devices

CAMERA (`android.permission.CAMERA`): Required to scan barcodes and packaging labels. You can revoke this permission at any time in Android Settings.
MEDIA/PHOTOS (`READ_MEDIA_IMAGES`): Optional. Only accessed if you choose to select an existing food photo from your photo library.
INTERNET (`INTERNET`): Required to fetch verified nutritional data, community food catalog updates, and cloud AI translation.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

FoodScan AI is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children.

7. Your Rights & Data Deletion

Under GDPR, CCPA, and Google Play Data Safety policies, you have the right to request deletion of any telemetry or query data. Please visit our Support & Data Deletion Page or email support@lets.gen.in.

8. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any modifications will be reflected on this page with an updated Effective Date.
